Well, for a Monday today wasn't so bad. I feel better than I have for the past three weeks. I'm still slow on this eating thing - but I've not felt queasy at all today, so I'll take it.

We got our performance reviews today and I got all high marks with a few "above and beyonds" - so I'm very happy with that =) Here I thought I was going to get yelled out for screwing around with LJ at work ;) Anyway - looks good for a small merit raise in the coming year. Should just about cover the money I'll be putting into my retirement plan - woohoo!

In addition to our mega epic fic [livejournal.com profile] damoyre and I are tossing around, I'm trying to talk her into a Heero/Wufei fic. Of course, I'm not sure which character I should write, since neither come easy to me - maybe I should just get out of her way and let her do it ;) Seriously, the past few days I've been feeling very Wufei-ish. Watched Endless Waltz again and felt a sudden connection to him and all his frustrations with humanity. Makes me want to pick up a sword, storm Washington and cry out "And I will become evil itself to stop you!" Too bad I don't have a Gundam. . .

Here's a question: Writing fics in the second person. I've got to say, I find reading second person fics as enjoyable as chewing glass. I understand that people want to be experimental, but - well - I've never seen this method used successfully in fanfic. If anyone out there can explain why they use it and/or why they think it's effective, I'd like to hear it. Also, if you can leave a link to a fic you think uses the technique well. Thanks =)

Last on my random thoughts of the day - fanon. There seems to be three camps out there. Those that use fanon as their fic writing bible. Those that are so zealous against fanon that they wipe the canon out the characters and plot right along with it till everyone is OOC and plot resembles nothing from the series. And finally, those that mind their own writing and don't get caught up with what everyone else is doing. We need more people in the last camp.

Yes, WuFei!

Judging from Light as a Feather, you can do a fine WuFei! Go at it, my liege, I command thee! (or the other way around! ;))
Oh my playful mood which will end abruptly tomorrow at classtime!
Seriously, I'll be extremely happy to read more of your WuFei! And if you're in the mood now, don't waste it away!

What she said! :)

See!! I told you your Wufei came out rather well in Light As A Feather. :)

As for the Wufei/Heero fic we discussed...YES! I'm up for it. We should do a little brainstorming and see what we can come up with. (Of course, we'll have to decide if we're doing this one or the Q fic first ;)

Re: What she said! :)

I think the H/W one should go first since it's decided the shorter of the two *G* We'll warm are feet there and then go for the big guns ;)

I know, I know - I better grab him while he's still hanging around. He's not saying things so much as leering at me menacingly, though. But I guess that's his way of showing love ;)

Good luck with class! Wufei says to study hard to have a good productive life ;)

I don't think so. *g*

1) You write both Heero and Wufei very well. You just need to get used to the idea. ;)

2) It's more fun when we write together!

I've been feeling very Wufei-ish. Watched Endless Waltz again and felt a sudden connection to him and all his frustrations with humanity.

Hmm...now might be a good time to tackle him down and tell him to help you with a fic in the Dies Irae timeline. ;)

As for the 2nd person POV... *sigh* It irritates me. I HATE fics written this way almost as much as I hate preggie fics. Everytime I encounter one I want to scream! I hope someone can point us to a good example... ^_~

Yeah, we'll write it together *smooch* Maybe you can write Heero and I'll tackle the grouchy one *g*

And it looks like TBQ offered a 2nd person sample - You'll have to read it and tell me what you think ;)

a) Love the Beaker

b) Congrats on the job stuff!!

c) Never tried second person myself, but I did find one story which I thought used it well. [livejournal.com profile] jennyo's 40 Days of One Night Stands

Okay, I think you're right - this one did use it well. But I'm noticing a trend on when this style is well used - and it seems to be when there is a hard edge to the story - almost a Fight Club sense to it. But I'm also not convinced that it couldn't have been better written in first or third - second, when you come down to it, is a first person story told in the third person. But as second person stories go in fanfic, this is the best I've seen. =)

Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

I know what you mean about second person. To me, even if the writer does it well (and that's so rare I can't think of an example), it always reads like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book or a prologue to a computer game. Know what I mean? The only second person that works to me is if it's in the form of "you" as the first person writing a letter or a story for someone, like writing a letter to their kid confessing their crimes as a parent, or a lover writing to an ex about their mutual past. But doing the "You're backed into a corner and feel the cold sweat dripping down your neck" thing in second person... It's just not doing it for me! I'm way more a first person type, although heck I've done a lot of third person, including the (original) book I'm doing. Yikes on second person though.

Oh, and kudos on the job thing :) Yay.

Re: Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

Yeah, I think you're right on the use of second person - when I see it written as "You're walking down the street, you see a black cat cross your path and you begin to feel uneasy. . ." it's just . . .yuck. Second person done that way almost feels like a snuff fic.

I loved Choose-your-own-adventure and Which Way books when I was a kid - but that was more for the alternate options - I thought they were neat when I was 10 *g* DO they even publish those anymore, or is that a forgotten fad these days?

Re: Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

Ha. Good question about those books. I bet it's on the web -- you could totally do it with web pages.

This one site I know of has an "interactive" story where you read and choose options and if one of them isn't written, you get to write it.

I never cared for those books myself because they were always like 3 years below grade level and boring as far as language. When I was in fifth grade I was obsessed with Poe :>}
