Went to the used bookstore today and bought four books I probably don't need. Got another used copy of Mother Night, as mine had the cover torn off and was bit through by a giant austrialian shepard named Barkley. It was still readable, but looked a sight.
Anyone else remember a time when you could go to a used book store and pay less than the cover price of the books? Everywhere I go I'm paying 2x the original amount. Granted, if the book is out of print or it's a special edition, the price increase makes sense. But for your average paperback? If the cover price said 1.50, I can remember picking it up for a quarter - now it's $3 =P I'm going to blame Dubya, just 'cause.
No dime back H. P. Lovecraft books this time. I'm very dissappointed. I'm going to have to start looking in old editions of Weird Tales.
August 14th has been declared Jim Traficant Day. If you're a fan of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, wear a toupee or are the son of a truck driver, it's your lucky day! See a game for free.
For those of you that don't know, Traficant is the congressman of the 17th district of Ohio - my hometown. He was kicked out of the House after being convicted of racketeering and tax evasion. He's serving 8 years in prison and plans to run for the House again from jail. Rep. Gary Condit of California and Chandra Levy fame, is the only Congressman to vote in favor of Traficant. Made Jim look that much sleezier.
This is from his speech before Congress right before they voted to kick him out:
It's not just you. No one is sure what the hell he was talking about.
He also said this:
This makes sense.

"'Go to the tent and get my bright red vest. To show the power and courage of our people, without a sidearm I am going to carry this sword and I am going to attack the enemy, and, as they slay me, the blood will not be seen because of my bright red vest and you will be encouraged to fight for our homeland.' He gave a banshee cry. He ran out into battle and was destroyed.'
It's not just you. No one is sure what the hell he was talking about.
He also said this:
Do I do my hair with a weed whacker? I admit.
This makes sense.
