So I bought a sack of finger potatoes since they're small and cute and eating one before I go to bed is suppose to help me kick the sweet cravings. My seratonin and beta endorphin levels are very low, which is why I crave sweet things filled with yummy sugar and other people crave stuff like alcohol or drugs. The potato (skin on), eaten about an hour before I go to bed, is suppose to boost the seratonin and beta endorphin levels so I don't get depressed and pig out on a tub of chocolate frosting. But my sack of potatoes is still closed and now they're growing roots. For some reason I am totally resisting the potato treatment even though the sweet cravings are causing me total distress and depression.

I've given up all food with refined sugar and limit my intake of natual occuring sugars in things like fruit and dairy products, but I still have total cravings for sweets and end up indulging in stuff with splenda or aspertame - which are really not all that much better for people than refined sugar. I'm finding reports that are actually making me far more scared of the sugar substitutes - but I can't seem to ditch the cravings.

I also need to really get aggressive about carb-counting - and while I can do it on paper, just practicing it is killing me. I wish I were the type of person that was happy living on raw and steamed vegitables and protien shakes, but alas I'm not.

I've decided after I win the lottery I'm going to hire a dietitian to plan all my meals and go to a fat farm. They're not allowed to let me out until I lose 50 lbs and I'm in perfect health.

Remember that (whole grain, aka "old-fashioned") oatmeal also works. It might be easier to get yourself to eat a cup of oatmeal before bed than a potato? Cinnamon is supposed to be good for stabilizing blood sugar, so I have oatmeal with cinnamon and Stevia and feel pretty good about that.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that oatmeal was an alternative to potatoes. If I can find some garanteed gluten-free oats (I have celiac syndrome), that would be an awesome alternative to the potatoes.

I take cinnamon pills and use generous doses on food through out the day. I've started also using Stevia, but thus far I don't find it very satisfying - though from all my reseach it's oddles good for you. I'm wondering if it's either a chemical reaction that isn't happening for me or if it's something you have to train yourself to like (which I've done with some foods).

Thank's so much for posting - I shall research new things now :)

Try chromium supplements. Works wonders for me. I tried the potato thing, too, and it didn't work. Good luck!

I read somewhere that if you put an apple in the bag with the potatoes, they won't sprout. I have no idea if that's true or not, though. :)

I've heard that too, but never tried it. Hmmmm... Couldn't hurt :) Thanks!
