So yesterday I had an interview with another school and it went as perfect as an interview can go. They had a full committee there and each of them said I was great and very thorough in answering their questions. As I walked out the door, the committee chair made it a point to tell me I did a great job - and since I was one of the last people they interviewed, I think it's a good sign that they were all smiles. The vibe was so good that I think it may just be a matter of what they offer as to whether or not I have a new job. Woohoo!
Also, yesterday I received an e-mail to set up a phone interview from a university where I applied to teach online classes as an adjunct professor. I'm optimistic about that as well. It's been making me crazy that I have all this knowledge trapped in my head with no outlet. I really can teach this stuff, I have degrees and everything!
The school I currently work at keeps telling me each quarter that I'll have a class, only to have it snatched away at the last minute due to a full-time instructor that always wants extra money. This wouldn't be so bad were it not that this instructor sucks and all the students hate him. Typically 50% of the students fail his class. He starts them all out with an F and they have to then dig their way out of that. Way to inspire, buddy. I don't think they really believe that I'll get fed up and leave. It seems to shock them everytime someone leaves after being screwed over. I've heard them talk about the lack of loyalty around here, though it never occurs to them that loyalty works in both directions and is earned.
The highlight of yesterday, as good as all the other stuff was, was opening the mailbox and finding a letter from an old friend that's currently living in France. It was an old fashion, hand-written, eight page, mostly legible letter. It was the most wonderful thing I've received in the mail in years. She took classes to learn French and is now working in a vineyard for half the summer to learn more about the wine industry. She'll be back in the US in mid July. We haven't seen each other face to face in years, but I never missed her so much until I read that letter. I'm going to work hard to see her before 2007 is up.
What a good day yesterday was.

And yeah, hand written letters are totally rare. But there's something so special about them. I think I shall get in the habit of writing them again :)
