Sending out comfort vibes for those caught in the path of Hurricane Ivan. Still have a few friends living there and I hope they have safe shelter. I was living in New Orleans in 1998 when tropical storm Frances flooded us and Hurricane Georges shut the city down. I've never had nerves wracked as much as waiting that out. It was a level 2 hurricane. As much as my roommates and I had fun on that adventure, somewhere in the back of my mind I was scared shitless. We got hit with the western side of Georges and escaped major damage while Mobile was crushed. Downed powerlines and trees was the extent, no major damage for us.

Ivan scares the hell out of me.

Reports coming in: All bridges and roads out of New Orleans are closed now. If you didn't get out already, it's not going to happen.

If you're interested, some of the cams are still up. Last I look Streetcar and Bead Cam were still running. I think Burbo Cam and Karaoke Cam are down:

Lake Pontchartrain has already begun to flood. Bad, bad news as the worst hasn't even begun yet.

Weird thing, most of my fam is in Florida. My poor uncle was hit by Charley and Frances and is so freaked now he's thinking of leaving Florida after 20 years of living there. Yet it's New Orleans that's totally freaking me out. I guess I got more attached to the city then I thought I did. Poor thing's below sea level and sinking. I don't think it can survive a hit from a catagory 4 hurricane =(
