It's occured to me that I never posted on the status of my new job, what with all the worldly madness going on. So here's me giving the low down. Love. The Job. The workload can get a little intense, but I always get it done and I like what I do far more here than at the old job. I'm still waiting to get my office, but I've been assured I'll get it by the end of the month. Then I will have doors and there will be no stopping me. Seriously need my own office though. I meet with a lot of students that have personal issues they don't necessarily want God and the world knowing, so I made a bit of hint to my boss today that it'd be better to have it sooner rather than later. She assures me all is going well on that front.

With the GREAT help of [livejournal.com profile] battlemistress I have cleaned out my room and closet. Found many long lost items I plan to hang and decorate my office with. It's all about the decor, you know.

Yesterday we had a meeting at the culinary building that ended with a massive luau. Four tables worth of Hawaiian goodness, let me tell you. The meeting was cut short as we really couldn't hear each other over the students outside equiped with limbo sticks chanting "How low can you go! How low can you go!" Did I tell you I love this job?

On a cool front, the culinary students have also volunteered their services to help the Katrina surivivors that are in the Denver shelter. In addition, my school's doing a lot of fundraising and service volunteering. So all is good there :)

I watched the re-run of The Daily Show yesterday. [livejournal.com profile] thebratqueen was kind enough to pass on the info that Kurt Vonnegut would be on. It was great to see that Jon is such a fan of Kurt. I can relate with Jon in that Kurt greatly helped me in surviving early adulthood. Kurt's old now, but his mind is still sharp. Need to read his new book... need to re-read God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater... I sometimes wonder if part of my problem with depression is that I've read most of KVs work. There's a sort of sadness in reading it. But. It's an uplifting sadness. Many times a humorous sadness. A sadness I can work with. What is depressing, is that there are very few authors left that underscore the humanitarian style of writing that KV championed in the mid to late 20th century. Or maybe they're out there, but they're hard as hell to find now because the print media doesn't find them marketable.

Re: KURT VONNEGU!!!!

It was on Tuesday and re-runned on Wednesday - but you can watch the interview here (http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/videos/most_recent/index.jhtml).

He's also got a new book out called A Man without a Country (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/158322713X/ref=ord_1cl_log_ydet/103-6306576-7845461?v=glance&s=books), which is basically a collection of articles he wrote over the past five years for the online magazine In These Times.

I think Kurt is truly the only hero I ever had in my life. I gush very stupidly over him, as I do with most things that mean a lot to me.
