So I'm reading the news and come across this article: U.S. woman charged with spying for Iraq
Now it looks that it was split into two payments. She flew all the way to Bagdad for $5,000. I'm not sure who was more hard up, the woman or the Iraqi government. $10,000 measly dollars to betray one's country? Would you really sacrifice life and limb for $10,000?
Of course we don't know the whole story or her reasons for doing it. Maybe she believes in her cause and would have done it for free. Maybe she didn't do anything at all and is falsely accused. Maybe she's an adrenaline junkie. I don't know. But man, $10,000? The article says that money also covered her expenses. I mean, it's not $10,000 plus expenses, just $10,000. Her flight to Baghdad would take a good chunk of that.
I'm sorry, my mind just can't wrap itself around this.
