Or, What the FUCK Mr "President"?
So Dubya now wants to go to the moon and Mars. Prior to his presidential appointment in 2000, I was all for the space program. I was thinking it was high time we did a real mission to space again. Why not? We had a massive budget surplus, and life was looking optimistic. Then Dubya entered the oval office, 9-11 hit, he decided to go to war and splurge the surplus - now we're trillions of dollars in debt and and ecomony sucks. I can't think of a lamer thing for him to do than taut this moon and mars mission. Which you know is his little way of funneling more money into the military. Make no mistake, we're getting more fighter jets if that money gets approved.
What I don't get is the Republican line of "Democrats just tax and spend, tax and spend. That's no good for America!" Yet under Reagan and Bush we had a huge deficit. Clinton, with all his taxing and spending, gave us a huge surplus. Dubya has stripped us of everything we had and put us in a hole so deep the light at the end of the tunnel is just the rest of our retirement money being burned to heat us in the winter. That ought to last through this february. I hope none of us were planning to live past 65.
So what are the Reps saying again? The Democrats are just going to tax and spend, tax and spend. Jesus, it seems to work though! Whatever they were doing, it works! Are the Republicans really trying to tell us that their methods of driving the economy into the ground and grinding it to jelly are working better? What? What, what, what? I don't get this insane troll logic. And why the hell are people nodding their heads and buying it? When I see women living in poverty with kids they can't support saying things like "That President Bush is a good man." I just have to wonder where the mind warping radio signals are coming from and how does one protect themselves from it? (Yeah, I know Clinton didn't help women in poverty much either, maybe that's the reason. . . But then you have Bush saying we need to support tradtional nuclear families and fuck everyone else. Yeah, some nice guy.)
This guy doesn't stand for the majority of the American people out there. 50% of married couples are divorced. Many couples are same-sex. A good many families are single parents raising a couple kids and a whole hell of a lot of us are struggling single folks who seem to be penalized for not wanting to get hitched. Why are the working class, the fucked over class, supporting this guy?
My only answer is - insane troll logic is taking over. It's in the water, it's in the air. Start putting the tin foil hats on, folks.

I was wondering where the Starbucks and Block Buster were, but Nick assures me their inside the Mar-mart.

decided to realign the directives of the American space agency to
his incredible goals, the fifteen years of embattled underfunding
faced by NASA have come to an abrupt conclusion...
At first site, this looks good for NASA. The administration
announced their support and interest in the organization. There's
a new goal, which NASA can approach as soon as the money flows.
But look again. The speech promises only $1 Billion to NASA in the
next five years. There's no plan to line up more money to cover the
costs of the most ambitious, wildly expansive mission ever handed to
NASA. This mission dwarfs the current NASA missions which already
operate on a shoestring budget.
Tex's plan for then next five years: the $11 Billion of NASAs current
$15.5 Billion budget will be re-appropriated for reaching the moon.
With the other $1 Billion promised, the mission for the moon will have
$12 Billion for the next five years. Taking into account inflation, the
Apollo program cost over $30 Billion!
So NASA has a new mission which starts underfunded and all the
current projects - already underfunded - that have just been cut
another 70%!
I wish the folks at NASA a lot of luck.
Even more insight can come from looking at the plans to reach the
moon. The "plan" forgets one important thing. We need to have a
way to carry payloads from the ground into space. With NASA's
flagship launch vehicle grounded, and no one knowing when shuttle
operation will continue, the "plan" to reach the moon does the only
sensible thing: stops development of the shuttle's successor.
Come 2011, the retirement date for the Shuttle, after at most 6 more
years of operation, NASA will not have any means of reaching orbit, let
alone the moon. But that's not a problem, according to the plan, NASA
can rely upon Europe, Russia and Asia for that part of the plan.
The plan should be termed the setup. A growing minority of Americans
have been keen to see NASA disbanded. Each budget given NASA gets
cut. The demands increase. But no one has been able to quickly deal
a devastating blow to the organization. This administration may succeed
in their support accomplishing what more than fifteen years of detractors
couldn't accomplish in their opposition.
