So I found myself today researching Gen. Wesley Clark. Wasn't quite sure I could support a military man for the White House given the present air, but as I researched the man, I found that. . . I liked him! My God, I found I wanted to give the man a hug. He's a liberal, a real freaken liberal. In a day and age where the lead liberal front man (Howard Dean) on the democratic ticket isn't really a libral, here's one in the form of a military general.

Michael Moore was good enough to make a little bullet list with some high points, and as I'm at work and too lazy to make my own, I'll list his. Though his does look pretty complete:
1. You oppose the Patriot Act and would fight the expansion of its powers.

2. You are firmly pro-choice.

3. You filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in support of the University of Michigan's affirmative action case.

4. You would get rid of the Bush tax "cut" and make the rich pay their fair share.

5. You respect the views of our allies and want to work with them and with the rest of the international community.

6. And you oppose war. You have said that war should always be the "last resort" and that it is military men such as yourself who are the most for peace because it is YOU and your soldiers who have to do the dying. You find something unsettling about a commander-in-chief who dons a flight suit and pretends to be Top Gun, a stunt that dishonored those who have died in that flight suit in the service of their country. I need to do more research on the guy before I make my choice. But I already know I do NOT want to support Howard Dean. I have to conceed, Dennis Kucinich isn't going to make it despite that so many people agree with him. The "I like what he stands for but he's un-electable" crowd have garenteed that Kucinich will fail. And I swear, if everyone of those people supported what they believed in rather than what they believed was elecatble the guy could have made some serious waves. Howard Dean, to me, is Clinton II, and despite the fact that Clinton is a thousand times more capable of running the country than Bush, he still sucked. If all we wanted was to pull the country off war mode, then Dean might do the trick, but we need more than just that. Dean's my choice if and only if, it comes to the vote of the evil of two lessers. Right now, my eye is on Clark and what he does in the next few months.

As I am always looking to educate myself, may I ask what you don't like about Dean specifically?

Dean is a staunch supporter of AIPAC (America-Israel Public Affairs Committee), a very right-winged Pro-Lukid/Sharon Jewish group. Dean is so anti-Palestian that he outright refused to meet with an Palestinian leaders during his AIPAC sponsered trip there. Even if you could say he's just trying to get the Jewish vote, you can't because the majority of Jews in the US do not support AIPAC.

I've done too much thesis research on Christian Zionism not to have alarms tripping off here. While I admit, I don't know enough about Dean to know if his intentions are religious in nature, his pro-likud stance is quite enough to leave a bad vibe with me.

Add to that, he's been called on his lack of environmental friendliness as well as his perchant to squirm at the word liberal. He's a huge supporter of the NRA. The press had to sue him in order to get a hold of his calendar, which is part of the public domain. He was out of the state more than half of the year and he didn't want the pess getting ahold of that. He also made the broad claim of being the only Democrat front runner not to support the war. That's bullshit.

So I don't like Dean. Don't trust him, don't want him as my president.

I'm pretty excited about Clark too... I'm really looking forward to seeing how his candidacy goes. I think he'll have a positive effect on the race no matter what happens.

I apologize in advance, for I am too busy to do research.

What is Clark's opinion on gay rights?

Have no idea - he just announced his intention to run. As I stated, I'll have to watch him more and see what he's all about. Hard to do that on day one of his candidacy.

I'm not endorsing him as my candidate, merely looking at him as a possible choice. We shall see in the next few months how he shapes up.
