Carl has agreed to be my thesis advisor. Well, he didn't so much agree as tell me I was now working with him with a sinister "Get used to the idea" tagged to the end of a smirk enhanced pregnant pause. I'm now working with a national expert on cults and sects in the US for my thesis. Though my thesis is not on cults or sects so much as an apocalyptic religious movement thoroughly entrench in the US political structure, but he's knowledgeable in this field as well. He taught a class called The End of the World a few years ago.
Anyway, Carl says my thesis topic is on a subject he always wanted to research but never really had the time to work on. My thesis? Christian Zionism and apocalyptic vision in American politics, and its relationship to the state of Israel. Fun, fun, fun.
Carl wants me to go to the Dallas Theological Seminary to pillage through their archives. Scofield, of the Scofield Bible fame, funded the building of the seminary and it's considered the Vatican of Dispensationalism. But still. Dallas. *sigh* Sometime this summer or fall I guess I'll make my way there. . .
So now I spend the weekend completing the thesis proposal for approval by the department. After the 22nd, I should know if I've been given approval.
In other news, has anyone else gotten this spam mail: THE UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE IS UNTENABLE
You just don't expect spam in the field of quantum mechanics. You just don't . . .
