Been asked by a few people recently where I got my handle. Some of you will find it of no surprise that it's from the Kurt Vonnegut book Cat's Cradle. It was an exercise in nihilism and the absurdity of most things on the planet. The character of little Newt makes a cat's cradle with string and asks the questions "See the cat? See the cradle?" It's followed by another character taking Newt's painting and flinging it over a cliff.
My handle is not about being a cat-lover, though I do not dislike cats. I occasionally get e-mail meant for cat-lovers. Last week someone named Joyce asked me how little Jinx was and do I have recent pictures. When I told her I wasn't who she was looking for and that I didn't now or ever have a cat named Jinx, she wrote back asking what kind of cats do I have and we could be friends anyway. I didn't reply. See the cat? See the cradle?
