Happy birthday to ladybd! =)

I went down to the shelter yesterday and looked at the little tan cocker spaniel. It was the only dog not jumping around, barking and acting frantic like most poor dogs cooped up in a shelter. It was laying on it's side looking all depressed, which cocker spaniels are really good at. But when I bent down to pet it, it didn't respond at all to me. I got a little scared that something was terribly wrong. But then ladybd bent over and her Picachu purse hit the floor and the little dog responded very favorably to that. He got up and began to sniff at it and then he got excited that we were there =)

So I told the shelter people that I wanted to see that dog and we got to take it in the back and bond with it. He was the sweetest dog! Very laid back, but very loving, affectionate and cuddling. I fell very in love with this dog and decided I had to have it. Unfortunately I couldn't take it home yesterday because it needed to get neutered first. So the shelter guy came to take the dog back and it backed up behind our legs. The poor thing didn't want to go back with the man. =( Not much I could do though, so I went up front and signed all the papers. Then a vet came to speak to me and go over the dog's medical needs - not much, just excessive tearing in the eyes - common in cocker spaniels.

So from there I stopped at PetSmart and got all the provisions for when I bring him home on Monday. I found the cutest collar - blue with rainbow celtic knots all over it. I thought of naming him Emmett, but then I thought I might give the dog a little complex ;) Ozzy is out as this dog is no prince of darkness. He's not even a prince. And his 80s hair style will be gone with the next grooming, so no headbanger names. I have a list of potentials - will post when the decision is made.

Cool things about the dog - he seems a bit trained already. He knows basic commands like sit and come. He was freely giving me his paw - something my dog Daisy did all the time when she didn't know what else I wanted "Here, does that satisfy you? Huh?" *g*

The shelter people said they tried to contact the dog's owner when they found him, but the owners wouldn't reply. =/ I guess that's my gain then =)

Thank you for the birthday greeting! That'll teach me to not read LJ for a week, eh? As for the little pup, glad Pikachu could help. Frodo is a great little dog.
