I was going to watch The State of the Union Address last night but it got pre-empted by Bush's election campaign promises.

Anyone else watch it and wonder why the state of the union wasn't actually addressed? Well, there was a few seconds in there where he said the state of the union was strong, but I was under the impression that the subject matter of the state of the union should actually occupy more than .01% of the speech.

Bush told us what he wanted for the future. We're going to do this and that. But nothing on where we're at now - which is the point of the fucking address.

He wants the war, so he's spewing propaganda rather than doing what he should have done. Sadly, I expected it.

And even sadder, people bought it, and a lot of people decided that the war is a good thing overnight.

Every time I say this nation can't get any dumber, it proves me wrong. I swear, someone up there has one messed up sense of humor.

I don't think that the American people are innately dumb. I believe that we are fed, from a very early age, that America is the great peace keeper of the world. Pick up an American History highschool text book and skim through it one day. Our education and the media flash us continuious sound bytes and images of America the Great Democracy! We're continually told to fear. Before it was the Soviet Union, now it's terrorism and Iraq. It's not that the people are just too guilible, *anyone* subjected to that sort of propoganda their whole life is going to be vulnerable to the story.

I do believe that if the public was given all the correct information, people would not be for this war. I believe they would be appalled. But right now, most don't have access to that information. You have to dig to find it. What's worse, there are many activists out there that, with good intentions, are spreading misinformation and acting like idiots. War protesters have to do their homework too. They have to be very careful about what they're saying and how they say it. When you're in the minority, you have to be articulate and well informed, otherwise you just come off as a radical nut, and that only hurts the cause.

I honestly didn't mean that Americans really are dumb. I agree, we are taught propaganda from an early age. Heck, in elementary school I was taught that Native Americans were a backwards people that needed help, and I believed it. More and more, I see the corellation between 1984 and America.

But, then, pretty much every country is like that. America just happens to be the most powerful nation in the world, and that's what scares me.
