You know those stupid drug ads out there that try to tell us that smoking marijuana supports violent crime syndicates and leads to killing your little brother by accident when you find your dad's loaded gun in an unlocked drawer?

Someone decided to take those commercials and change them into something which resemble's logic and reason.

Watch these parody commercials at The Detroit Project

They're trying to get these commercials on the air - I hope they succeed

It's about time somebody made fun of those. One of these years I'll even do a small rant about them, although I suspect really all that needs to be said is "Have you seen them?"

I think the one where the kid shoots his friend/brother/whoever after finding his dad's loaded gun in the unlocked drawer is priceless on the stupidity level. I mean, where do you start? It's a thousand times easier to get alcohol - so the kid is more likely to be drunk and do something that stupid, not high on some low grade oregano he bought from Stinky the neighborhood stoner. Then there's the obvious issue of dad leaving a loaded gun in an unlocked drawer - it reads better as a gun control commercial than an anti-drug ad. Parents, it's okay to be irresponsible with your guns, so long as you teach your kids to say no to drugs! Man alive. The mind boggles.

The thing that gets me is that first and foremost they make no sense. I, who am not a stoner, can't even understand why we get 3-5 different senarios before the nasty one. What is the repetition with a slight change each time supposed to indicate? And if I can't figure it out, I can't imagine what they think people who are as stoned as the people in the commercials are going to get out of it.

And then add on top of it that the commercials don't even give the right message! If you watch any of those commercials the message you get is "Pot is harmful, but only about 25% of the time and even then only under really specific circumstances like your friend's dad keeping a loaded gun in the unlocked drawer you by chance happened to sit in." to which the obvious conclusion is - great! No harm at all then as long as I avoid those circumstances!

I mean if they want to talk about the downside of pot why not show somebody who's got no motivation b/c he's been a stoner all his life? Or show what a jackass someone can look like when they're high? That at least relates back to the product and a danger that could apply to everyone that uses it.

And don't get me started on the "Drugs support terrorists. No they do. No they just DO god-damn it! Stop questioning me!" bullshit. Because I seriously doubt the pot you buy from that friend of a friend who grows it in his own apt under a heat lamp is tossing money into the hands of, well, anyone but him, let alone terrorists.
