Here I am at work waiting for 4:30 to roll around. There are like... maybe 2 other people in this building. Our holiday starts tomorrow, so everyone pretty much abandoned the place on Monday for their holiday travel. I really don't know why we keep up the farce of holding classes when we know no one will show. Same for Christmas week. We don't hold classes, but we're open.
Today I've noticed I sound terminal stupid when I leave messages on vmail. No moment of prep makes me sound any better. I totally forget what I'm saying as I say it. I recover the memory just as I hang up the phone so I know just how dumb it sounded. My phone should be taken away. This is why I don't volunteer for political phone bank fund raiser stuff. People would be turned off in droves and I would be responsible for the election of Rudy Guiliani or something worse.
On a happier note, I discovered a nice gluten free bakery in practically my backyard. I talked to the owner and she gave me a plate of her breads to sample - they were very yummy. I bought a ton of her mixes for cakes, pancakes and corn bread and two loaves of bread - one cinnimon raisin and one mock rye. Both incredibly good. AND bread cubes for stuffing. The owner swore to me that the cubes would have the same consistancy as regular wheat bread, and she couldn't keep them in stock, so I have a good feeling about it. I've got my recipe for gravy made from potato starch - I'm ready for Thanksgiving!
Now I should be grading the last of the quizzes the students turned in on Sunday. I only have three left, but I so don't feel like it. After that begins the grading of their reflection papers. The students had to observe a religious service that was different than their religious background and write a 4-5 page reflection paper on it. I have some fantastic and open minded students in the class, but also a lot of hardline fundamentalists (who do things like post Christian prophecy links all over discussion boards on Buddhism...), so it ought to be a diverse lot of papers.
Onward, ever forward.... it's only 10am =P
