Should I be frightened? For my online class I typically post a quiz on a Friday morning and then give them until Sunday midnight to submit it. There are 10 questions each worth 2 points. They are allowed to use their books and are given 3 days to complete it. I'm still getting folks that are scoring 6/20 points. This confuses me. There's not a single answer on that quiz they can't find in the text book. Seriously, if you know how to vaguely use an index, you can't fail this quiz.

In the last quiz I had a student call me a "races" because I asked the question, "What is meant by the idea that Whites enjoy the privilege of not being reminded of their whiteness?" Actually, he replied with beligerant answers in all three of the short answer questions I asked, but the last one seemed to set him off the worst. The grammar and spelling were so bad I had to read each one several times before I knew what he was talking about. Up until this quiz he seemed your average type student, so I don't know if he was experiencing test rage or if he was drunk.

I asked him to explain why he thought the question was racist and to help me understand his point of view and then followed up a few days later - but he won't address it. He's still in the class and acting normal again, so I suspect he's embarrassed about it.

Despite some of the issues, I really like the teaching gig =)
