So today at work I decided to go through all the amendments and referendums we have to vote on in Colorado this Novemeber. And before you get on my case for goofing off at work, let me tell you there are a shitload this year and they're important ones. In addition to all our elected officials I need to slug through there are 7 Amendment proposals and 7 Referendums. Not many third party candidates this time around. I think there's 1 Libertarian for Attorny General, but his website is just his business website with no candidate info up, so not impressed. Besides, I'm rather taken with Ken Gordon. He sends me e-mails once a week.

Important issues this time around include but are not limited to:

Colorado Constitution

Amendment 41 - Standards of Conduct in Government: This basically tells our elected officials they can't take bribes anymore for 1) campaign contrabutions, 2) while in office, and 3) up to 2 years after they are out of office. (Current law states they can't take money or presents equal to or over $50,000. A41 will limit it further).

Amendment 42 - Colorado Minimum Wage: Sets the wage at $6.85 to be adjusted annually for inflation.

Amemndment 43 - Marriage: Defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman and maybe a chimpanze (or in the case of Marilyn Musgrave, an amoeba).

Amendment 44 - Marijuana: Decriminalizes possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana for persons 21 years or older. This actually passed in Denver County 2 years ago - it's now up for State approval. Though because it's a federal offense, whether it passes or not it's still illegal. However, it sends a nice message to Washington with regards to the will of the people.

Referendum I - Domestic Partnerships: Gives the same legal rights to domestic partners that spouses have. The marketing for this referendum has been incredible this year. The GLBT community must have poured millions into the campaign budget - great commercials, and they had an amazing rebutal when the anti-I ads started coming out.

Referendum K - State of Colorado sues the Federal Government to enact its immigration laws: Basically if the feds did their job, we wouldn't have the immigration issue we have right now. So Coloradans have to decide if we think it's worth our time and money to hitch up with other states and sue the Feds' ass for being negligent.

The polls right now are showing that the marriage amendment 43 will probably pass - which is sad. BUT, Referendum I will probably also pass - which is great. Why people are SO hung up on the word marriage is beyond me, but there you have it. From what I can tell in the blue book and all the infor out there I can find, Referendum I pretty much gives domestic partners everything heterosexual spouses have except the right to be called married. And of course it's not recognized outside states that don't have official domestic partnership laws. Still, it will be quite a step if it passes.

Polls are in favor of Democrat Bill Ritter for Governor - very nice. We also have 3 big House seats up, 2 looking to unseat key Republicans (Marilyn Musgrave, this means YOU).

I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens this election.

I am looking forward with great pleasure to voting AGAINST Marilyn MustGo. Which I would even if Angie was not such a sweetheart.

Also, Ken Gordon is the funniest guy in Colorado politics, and as good as he is funny. I sure hope he gets in!
