My job over the three week summer break is to call all the students in my programs who were terminated and break the news to them. I have to tell them they have the right to appeal and how to go through the appeals process. I have to bite my tongue quite a bit during those calls when they act surprised and crushed. Dude, you have a .7 cumulative GPA after 3 quarters, what exactly did you think was going to happen? But then I guess thinking isn't your gig if you manage a CGPA of .7.

So now I have a long-winded message from a hysterical helicopter mom because her son has been terminated. Apparently it is the fault of everyone in the school with exception of her son. He missed 6-7 days (out of 11) in each class and failed to return any of my calls. I suppose I was to drag him out of bed and toss him in the class room then do his projects for him. But she claims we offer no support. She's not quite making the connection that if he needs support, he needs to first show up.

She's going to freak when I tell her I can't talk to her. Forgiving the fact that her son is AN ADULT IN COLLEGE NOW, the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 makes it totally illegal for me to say anything without a consent form from her son.

When the kids of the helicopter parents start having their own children, I wonder how many babies are going to end up being raised by their grandparents because mom and dad have no fucking clue what to do, having never done anything for themselves.
