I have a new medication for sleeping. It works. I sleep like a log. Unfortunately, like a log, I cannot get up on my own power in the morning when the alarm goes off. I finally found enough steam to get ready for work, but I wasn't fast enough. I watched my bus go by as I was stuck on the other side of the street. Luckily my co-worker saw me sitting at the stop, so I actually got into work 10 minutes early.

So this morning I'm going through the morning reports, still a bit in a daze, but I noticed something weird with the corporate accounts. We're losing money on two of them and the third we're breaking even on. Our director of enrollment just sent out a report on how well we're doing with the corporate accounts and it's the best thing we ever invested in. Now when he took over the position a year ago that's all he yammered on about - how important the corporate accounts were. The rest of us were saying we're not in a market right now that can support corporate sponsership of academics, but he insisted it was the best thing ever, just trust him. A year later, we've not only not made money, we've lost thousands of dollars on it. On one of the classes we're paying the instructors (why we need two, I don't know) more than what we're making. None of our other instructors make this much money per class. On the other corporate account, we're giving credit to students that aren't taking classes from us. It's being run out of their own company and we're provided the academic accreditation. How we can do this is beyond me since it's not one of our instructors teaching and we have no way to monitor the course as it's being taught in California. WTF? Maybe we should just start running mail order diplomas while we're at it.

Our regular classes aren't like this. Students sign up, we take the money, they get a grade and hopefully learn something. All is well. This corporate stuff is blowing my mind. The class material is questionable and we're losing money on it. Forgiving the ethics of it, how fucking stupid is this? They laid off the woman who was actually doing her job and bringing in students that paid money and gave her position to this asshole that blantantly violates academic ethics and loses money for us.

This isn't how the university as a whole operates, thank God. It's just a subdepartment within a department, but Christ...
