OUTSTANDING Observations!
I was thinking the same thing about the lottery from the moment I saw the opening. In fact, I'll even admit to being tempted, except that I suspect 30 million others are right now fighting the same temptation. THat would be a heck of a way to split a prize.

Didn't 23 pop up a lot in the Principia Discordia? I seem to remember that it did, but I don't have my copy on me.

Yes, 23 is rather prominent in the Principia Discordia. Pops up a LOT in the Illuminatus Trilogy and I *think* Shrodinger's Cat trilogy too. There was some connection to the John Dillinger conspiracy theory (more than the fact he was 23 when he was killed)- and they reduced a ton of other numbers down to 23 as well as pick up on many dates, ages, and years, though I don't quite remember all the details. It's refered as 23 Skidoo in Illuminatus. But it was first proposed by William S. Borroughs and Wilson, along with many other authors and artists, just tagged on to it.

Also found this: If you add up the numbers, 4+8+15+16+23+42=108, and subtract that from Hurley's net worth (156-108=48), again, it equals the number of survivors
