- Had my second altercation with Mark today. So for those that have been paying attention to my dilemma of whether or not I should apply to the advisor/recruiter postion? Heh, I've decided against. If I'm butting heads with him this bad on a few committees, God help the department if he were actually my boss.
- Had a staff meeting today for the student services office. When the Courageous Ass Kisser article came up, my boss twitched and rolled her eyes before telling us to read the article for tomorrow. It's good to know that most people think this is a really bad idea. I'm thinking of showing up with a copy of the Communist Manifesto just to see if ole Marx still has the ability to strike fear and chaos in the hearts of lesser men and women.
- Still want to see I Heart Huckabees, if for no other reason than Ebert's review:
I just want to see that. I get the short comings on the philosophical issues. It's a problem in many films where you get these metaphyiscal questions that fall hollow. Magnolia being a great example on that - builds up this case for synchronicity in the beginning and then fails to supply a good example of that through the movie. I still love Magnolia even though it fails to deliver in terms of the initial proposition. So with Huckabees, I not sure it matters if it can't address the issue of existential existence when you have something so much cooler at stake like hearing the sound of one hand clapping.

The movie is like an infernal machine that consumes all of the energy it generates, saving the last watt of power to turn itself off. It functions perfectly within its constraints, but it leaves the viewer out of the loop. This may be the first movie that can exist without an audience between the projector and the screen. It falls in its own forest, and hears itself.
