1. What was the last book you bought (for yourself, not a gift)?
Everything is Illuminated, by Jonathan Safran Foer.
2. What was the last book you borrowed from a library, and when was that?
Oh Jesus. I think I borrowed about 50 books last I was there. Let's see the Library database says the last book I renewed was. . . well damn, it's no longer listing past books. I don't know then. Something about the apocalypse for my thesis work, I'm sure.
3. Your favorite bookstore?
The Tattered Cover in Denver. There was also a used book store in Colorado Springs that I loved where you could literally find any book ever published for between .50 cents and 15 bucks, but it closed.
4. Last book you slogged all the way through even though it was hard to read?
I don't do this often. If a book leaves me cold after the first 50-100 pages, I won't finish it. It was probably The Vampire Armand, and that was because I wanted to write a review for it.
5. Worst film adaptation of a book you've ever seen?
I'm totally blanking on adaptations I've seen and hated. I'll say the remake of William Golding's Lord of the Flies (1990) and the Sci-Fi channel's remake of Dune. Though there are quite a few Heinlein adaptations I'm sure I'd abhore if I saw them. Also The Last Temptation of Christ, by Nikos Kazantzakis. And Mary Shelley's Frankenstein should be called Kenneth Braunagh's Most Disasterous Ego Trip. Needless to say about 70% of the Stephen King adaptations out there. There's never really been a faithful adaptation of Huckleberry Finn, but that might be a good thing. And after all this, I'm sure I've totally left out the one I hate the most.
6. Book you're just waiting for, that you will buy as soon as it's published?
Don't have one at this time. I'm always on the lookout for a good book though. When I'm on a book prowl, I check out the people I like to see if anything new is out or I run a google search for new books published. The last time I anticipated buying a book before publication was a Kurt Vonnegut book. I think it was Timequake.
7. The last time you gave a book as a gift, what was it, and to whom did you give it?
I am a big believer in books for gifts. At this point, I don't remember, I do it so often. I was thinking of buy Everything is Illuminated for my brother-in-law, because I think he'll like it.
8. If you had to move right now, are there any books you'd probably sell or donate so you wouldn't have to move them?
I've moved 5 or 6 times (can't remember anymore) in the past 7 years, and I've not donated or thrown a book away yet. I doubt I ever will.
