You could say this hasn't been the happiest day. It started with a dream about my aunt who died about 10 years ago. I woke up feeling just off - like everything was skewed. The rest of the day sorta followed from there.
Got a note from mom, who once again is very sick. She's been getting very tired lately, which isn't uncommon since she has both lupus and a heart condition - but she was more tired than was usual even for her. So she went to the doctor's and was told she has bleeding anemia. I guess it's the same as enternal bleeding - but they don't know where yet. She's scheduled for tests but they're also considering exploratory surgery. She may need transfusions as well if she loses more blood.
She has to work because the company my father retired from, and she was getting benefits from, filed for bankruptcy last year and cut all spousal benefits. She picked up health insurance from her own company, but they won't cover pre-existing conditions until after a year - that year will be up in February - so mom is getting insurance through Cobra - which is super expensive. Basically, mom's entire pay check goes to healthcare.
So, you know, the sick stay poor. Mom is 62 and has been very ill for the past 20 years. And she can't get a penny in disability - she has to work, make herself more sick, so that she can continue to get health benefits.
So I'm feeling shakey from that and we get news that one of our instructors committed suicide 2 days ago. He was a young guy with three little kids. It seems he was laid-off from his permenant job (he was just adjunct faculty here) and hasn't been able to find another permenant job for the past 6 months. Whatever else was going on in his life, I guess he just didn't feel as though things were ever going to get better =(
My head is pounding. The sinus infection feels like it's winning. The students calling today have all been nasty demanding snots. I just want to go home and not get out of bed till monday morning =/

Hopefully the test will reveal what's going on and she won't have to have the surgery =P It's just been a very bizzare day. The calls here are getting weirder and weirder =P
Get ICQ working, I've got a ton of work here I don't want to do ;)
I should be online this weekend - need to finish the fic and all that. I don't know about tonight because I just want to sleep =P *HUG*

P.S. Your "morbid" icon seems especially appropriate today.

I am so sorry for what your parents have to go through. Insurance companies are just the lowest of the low.

I hope she's better soon. I sooo feel the hate for insurance companies. You give them money practically your entire life so that when you need assistance it'll be there, and it never is! Bastards.
I hope you're better soon. Take care of yourself, chica.

Thanks for the support. The entire healthcare/social security nightmare thing has me in a tizzy whenever I think about it =P I thankfully have good insurance right now, so I"m taken care of - I just worry about the folks who've gotten screwed over too many times in their lives =/
*hugs*
I owe you a WAY over due letter - I know. I suck =(
