You could say this hasn't been the happiest day. It started with a dream about my aunt who died about 10 years ago. I woke up feeling just off - like everything was skewed. The rest of the day sorta followed from there.
Got a note from mom, who once again is very sick. She's been getting very tired lately, which isn't uncommon since she has both lupus and a heart condition - but she was more tired than was usual even for her. So she went to the doctor's and was told she has bleeding anemia. I guess it's the same as enternal bleeding - but they don't know where yet. She's scheduled for tests but they're also considering exploratory surgery. She may need transfusions as well if she loses more blood.
She has to work because the company my father retired from, and she was getting benefits from, filed for bankruptcy last year and cut all spousal benefits. She picked up health insurance from her own company, but they won't cover pre-existing conditions until after a year - that year will be up in February - so mom is getting insurance through Cobra - which is super expensive. Basically, mom's entire pay check goes to healthcare.
So, you know, the sick stay poor. Mom is 62 and has been very ill for the past 20 years. And she can't get a penny in disability - she has to work, make herself more sick, so that she can continue to get health benefits.
So I'm feeling shakey from that and we get news that one of our instructors committed suicide 2 days ago. He was a young guy with three little kids. It seems he was laid-off from his permenant job (he was just adjunct faculty here) and hasn't been able to find another permenant job for the past 6 months. Whatever else was going on in his life, I guess he just didn't feel as though things were ever going to get better =(
My head is pounding. The sinus infection feels like it's winning. The students calling today have all been nasty demanding snots. I just want to go home and not get out of bed till monday morning =/
