To those freaking out because FanFiction.Net has been blacked out for 9/11: I have to wonder about people that place fanfic so high in their lives that they can't do without even the worst of the archive sites for one day.

Folks, the site owners are from the US – it’s their own prerogative to shut it down for 1 day out of 365. If you don’t like it, there are a billion and one other fanfic archive sites out there. Chill out.

I get the political statement and that the US government has gone insane, brought it on themselves, got what it had coming to ‘em, et cetera . . . But today, some people, some very real people, need to grieve. Give the people a day to mourn their dead and we can complain about the US foreign policy tomorrow.

I finally saw some of the people pouting about ffn being down. Oh my GOD cope. What amazes me is that even if this WASN'T 9-11 I wouldn't get this issue. It's not even that good a site and it's not as though there aren't billions of other sites out there! God!

Too true. If they closed the site over a stubbed toe, why would anyone over 12 even care? I mean, I understand that ff.n has obscure fandoms and that's the only place to find them - but the quality is still pre-teen. And if I hear "It's the principle of the matter. . ." one more time I'm going to start ranting on what private ownership is all about. These archives aren't run by government agencies with obligations to be open all times - if someone wants to take their site down for the Sabbath or on the full moon or after labor day, that's their outlook. Unless you're paying money into the site, shut the fuck up.

The complaints I've heard have been "Whine! I wanted to distract myself with fanfic and now I can't!" Now I get that as a concept since I've been doing pretty much anything to distract myself today, but dudes - it's not the only site out there. Expand your bookmarks.
