Whatever state you live in, you may want to check out if the arts funding has been cut by the government in your area. Seems our "defense" spending in the past year has pre-empted monies that would have gone to the arts. Found this headline today:
I found more info in the Rocky Mountain News : There's no art to governor's line-item veto of metro funds
Support the arts through donations if you have the means - Vote Independant and Green.
I am seriously depressed.
- Governor Owens' Eliminates ALL State Funding for Denver County Arts Organizations
Governor Bill Owens' recent budget cuts totaled less than 2% of Colorado's annual budget, but eliminated ALL STATE FUNDING for Denver county arts organizations through exercising a line-item veto of state funding for the Colorado Council on the Arts.
If you believe the arts are not expendable or optional, please join us in reminding our elected officials that the arts and arts funding are important to Denver citizens.

Not surprised
I wish the country would know that musicians are not wealthy to start with, and most of us live from gig to gig, concert to concert.
Who the HELL does this Bill Owens think he is? I think someone should stop HIS paycheck and make him live off of musicians salary.
This is what's wrong with this freaking country. Politicians chopping away at not only the arts, but at welfare, foodstamps and women's programs. I'd like to see a law passed that before a mayor or governor can chop welfare of foodstamps, they'd be made to live off of it for at least six months.
Sorry I ranted. Just had to say it. =(
