For those of you wondering - The city of Denver is not under an evacuation warning. I saw some outsider reports from CNN and MSNBC that Denver was either under evacuation orders or warning, depending on the time of day the reports came out. Neither are true. Roxborough, Waterton Canyon and Lockheed Martin are under evac warnings and it's probably emminent that they will have to evacuate - but the order hasn't been called yet. As of early this morning, the fire was about 6.5 miles from Roxborough, which is probably 40 mintutes out from Denver proper. So, it's close in terms that we're definately feeling the effects of the fire, but we're not under immediate danger.

I had several frantic calls from relatives because of those reports. I'm not pleased with the news media right now.

On another front the Denver Post isn't helping matters with giant bold print of "WE CAN'T STOP IT!" - now, I saw that interview on TV with the fire chief and I don't recall him using that tone when he said it. It was more of a disgusted, down trotten, shaking of head tone. By the headline you'd think he was running around with hands in the air screaming it. Not a good way to avoid a panic. Thank you, Denver Post.

On yet another front, the stupid smokers of Denver haven't yet learned not to toss their cigarette butts out of the windows of cars. We have at least two brush fires known to have been started that way. Folks. . . your state is on fire, please stop. I counted 10 cigarette butts on the way to my bus stop near a VERY dry field of weeds. Can we say too stupid to live?

Okay - took a quiz. It appears that I'm a spider. That's ironic. I have arachnophobia.

I Am Ananse the Spider
Ananse the Spider of African folklore is both wise and foolish in the best tradition of tricksters. If you're like Ananse, you're clever and like to be thought well of, but sometimes you outsmart yourself. You're always trying to figure the best angle and you're intelligent and creative, but you have a crude streak. Still, you like to show off your knowledge and that makes you a good teacher..

The sheer idiocy of some people never ceases to amaze me. >_< Do keep us posted, Ok? <:) The news reports are scary! Oh, and I also got Ananse the spider, despite being pretty much terrified of spiders. ^_~

The fire is scary, and horrible and we're all glued to the TV to see what is progressing - but some of the reports are very misleading and it's causing a panic. That's not good =/

Today the sky is clear over the city, but the haze is strong over the mountains - you really can't see them except for faint grey silouettes. It was that way yesterday morning too, but by the afternoon you could smell the smoke again. It depends a lot on the way the wind blows. Lots of reports of people with bad headaches and some upper respiratory problems.

I hate spiders. There was one in my bathroom this morning. I still haven't gotten over that *g*

Re:

Hey, the spider story was enough to give me the heebie-jeebies. :D I don't even want to *think* about real ones! I'm only glad that my cats are Fierce Hunters! ^_~

I can pretty well imagine what it must be like. Last time my family went to Orlando, there were fires further south, and the wind blew all the smoke in our direction. There was absolutely *no* visibility beyond two or three feet; it was rather creepy. We all had troubles from breathing smoke... and we considered ourselves really, really lucky, because the fire itself hadn't travelled.
