So by now everyone's heard that Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination for Supreme Court Justice. I doubt anyone, accept Bush, thought she could ever do the job in the first place. Actually, I'm pretty sure Bush was counting on the fact that she couldn't do the job. Puppets only act when the strings are pulled. Given how inept she was at answering any question put to her with regards to constitutional law, I initially wondered why she accepted the nomination to begin with knowing the kind of humiliation she'd be put through. It hit me as I was reading [livejournal.com profile] plaidder's post today, that she probably accepted the nomination thinking that if Bush could be president with no qualifications, she could be a Justice! No problem. Not like you need skills, right? That's the sort of example Bush sets for us. You can be a slacker, have no skills, lie to get what you want, and be handed all the power of the world to use as your toy. So I bet Miers was thinking "Yeah. If he can do it, I'm 100 times smarter than him!" And no doubt she is smarter and more hard working than Bush. But then, so are ants.

One of the major problems my crew at work are trying to deal with right now is this new generation of students. Children of the Baby Boomers born between 1982 and 1995. The hallmark of this generation is that they lack motivation to learn, are disrruptive, have a huge sense of entitlement, lack the skills they need to succeed in school and work, are unable to learn across disciplines, and are bored easily by anything that extends beyond their nose. Sound like anyone you know?

Of course these hallmarks have exsited in kids in the past generations. It's always been there and it always will be. And of course this is a generalization, not all kids are like this. But it's the growing trend. If you're in the field of education, this is what you see more and more in the class room. It's not just one or two kids anymore, it's eight or ten.

But look at the president. Looks at all his cronies holding high positions. You don't need to work hard! You need to kissass! What you really need is a good sense of greed, entitlement and a lack of regard for anyone that isn't you. You'll go far. Slap up the 10 commandments in the court houses and enforce an archiac moral code and you'll be covered. This is the national example being set by the Bush administration and the GOP.

The only white light in the distance is that this administration has fucked up so badly, that it may just all blow up in their faces yet. And then we can use them as an example of what happens when people pretend their way through life.

Hooray, hooray! Gov. Jeb Bush is taking the blame for doing a good job. Well, who says there's no accountability in the GOP?

"Florida's governor tried to take some of the blame off the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which many critics faulted for a slow response in the earlier hurricane.

'If anybody wants to blame anybody, blame me,' the governor said. "Don't blame FEMA. This is our responsibility, and we are doing a good job."

So you see? It wasn't FEMA's fault, or the federal government's fault that the relief response to Katrina was so slow. It was the Governor of Louisiana's fault! THERE SHE IS! THERE SHE IS! SEE? HER, HER! Thank you, Jeb, you're excused now. Go about your business on the monkey bars.

I'm not saying that Jeb is an opportunist rat bastard, I'm just saying he dresses well at disaster site photo-ops.
