Well, I'm in trouble - I've got to read an entire book between now and tomorrow night. I'm not only a slow reader, but I have no desire to read this book - Willa Cather's O, Pioneers. Now you may be asking why I need to read this book, me not being a lit major and all that - well, I needed some extra easy credits so I took this class on the myth of the American west. . . I don't mind most of the readings and I get to watch a some cool John Wayne cheese movies. . . but this book is killing me. I may die if I'm forced to read it.

Anyone else ever have to read this book? If so, did you want to rip your eyeballs out? I'm just wondering.

Never read it...

In my academic life I was forced to read two books I just couldn't bring myself to "get into". Treasure Island in High School. I read the book on a Sunday because we had to do an "in-class" written report on that Monday.

And Plato's The Republic in college. Try as I might I could NEVER get through it without falling asleep, so I cheated and used the Cliff Notes for it (hey, got an "A" so my esteem for Cliff Notes rose that year). So I suggest Cliff Notes for this book. Sure you'll feel dirty using them, but dammit your sanity will stay in tact. :)
