Last week, for all the good things that happened, I was still feeling depressed. I'm not sure if this is because it gets dark now at 3:30 or because Mecury is/was in retrograde. But I'm trying now to see the good that I missed due to general gloominess.
So last week I got my graduation application signed off on and turned into the graduate office. Carl was good enough to call me and ask what he was signing - just to make sure I wasn't trying to slip the thesis paper work under his nose. To my credit, I at no time screamed "WHY DON'T YOU JUST READ THE FORM, CARL!" a him. Granted, he was about to leave town and was in a hurry, and I am grateful he signed it and turned it in at all. We'll work on reading for content later. Hopefully he'll have that mastered by the time he starts reviewing my thesis. Or not, depending on how well I write the thing. Now barring I don't forget to turn in my thesis at the end of February, I should be graduating in March. Woohoo!
I also was interviewed for a job across campus at the business school. The interviewer told me they received 176 applications for the job. Many of them were from people who previously made between 70-100K a year. Shit. This is the Denver job market. She's not bothering at all to call those people, fearing they'll take off as soon as the job market changes, which is a fair assessment. But it goes to show the desparation out there. It seems I have a very good chance at getting this job as I have the advantage of knowing the university software and the ins and outs of the school already. I'm not thrilled with the pay, but it makes a little more than I get now. Plus there's a lot of room for advancement as it's the richest department on campus. Once I have the master's degree, there will be a ton more opportunities to advance. So even though I'm not thrilled with the money they're offering, it gets my foot in the door to one of the toughest to get into departments. Not bad.
Saw The Incredibles this weekend - very nice. Though for some reason I was sure the voice of Mr. Incredible was John Goodman, when in fact it was Craig T. Nelson. Not sure how I mixed those up as I think they're voices are easy to distinguish from each other. Maybe it was just that the character looked more like Goodman to me. Though I guess that Neaderthalish looking brow was more indicative of Nelson. Oh Well. It was a good way to pass a few hours :)

Gets dark at 3PM, huh? That sucks. It gets dark here at 5 and it drives me crazy. I hate daylight saving time. I'd rather go to walk in the dark than come home to it. But that's just me. ;)
I'm sure you will do a *wonderful* job with your thesis. And once you have the degree in hand, it will open more opportunities for you - job wise. This new position might only be the first step on your way up. ;)

Thesis. Job. Money. Those are the objectives now. Hopefully it comes to something soon!
And I think The Incredibles is an adult movie. I didn't think there'd be so much violence and killing in it.

Actually, silly me thought you already had a Master's and you were working on a PhD - maybe my confusion was due to the fact you have... more than one Bachelor's? *scratches head* Or is it Major-Minor? I'm sure you have studied Philosophy, Religion, and Politics. What is the title of your Master's?
In any case, if you're looking to an academic career, then working at the university for all these years is the best thing you could have done! :) They prefer insiders.

I have a duel Bachelor's degree in Anthropology (specifically prehistory/archaeology) and Philosophy. My minor was in Geology. My Master's work is in Religious Studies. I'm not sure if I'm going for a Ph.D. yet. Probably not, as I'm just sick of school right now ;)
I'm hoping I have an in for teaching later - but it's really hard to get a job here even as an adjunct professor =P The cool thing here though, is if I stay at the university, I can potentially get a Ph.D. or a second Master's for free.
