Well, I watched it. To say that Bush did better in this debate than the last one is no lie, but then lichen couldn't have done worse than Bush in the first debate. There was nowhere to go but up. Basically Bush mastered inflection and enthusiasm, but unfortunately for him, his content was still flawed, his lies still bad ones. He in no way came close to winning over Kerry and there were a few times I half expected Kerry to start giggling. But it's no laughing matter. You can lie and be illogical and say it with enough conviction that people will believe it. And Bush was good at that last night. This is Bush's one trick - say it enough times and they will believe. Rove must have really drilled that into him.

I felt bad for the moderator when Bush bulldozed over him. "No! I'm going to answer this! If I cared about rules do you think I'd be president today? Get out of my way..." To be fair, Kerry did it once too, though much less forcefully. Had the moderator not been cowering after the Bush tantrum, I think he could have easily gotten Kerry in hand. I half expected Bush to pick the guy up, swing him around and toss him out into the audience. The guy's president, what are ya gonna do?

I was glad when the moderator stepped in and said "I've heard a lot up here on both sides about plans and how you're going to cut the deficeit in half in the next four years, but uh, neither of you really mentioned how you were going to do that." Given a second chance, neither still really answered it. I think Kerry actually might have, but I didn't feel he actually conveyed it till the moderator took them to task on it for a third time. THREE times he had to ask it. And Bush still didn't answer the question remotely.

Which brings us to the last question asking Bush to name three mistakes he made and how he'd correct them. So basically he tells woman asking the quetion what she really meant to ask him was if he made a mistake invading Iraq and gets himself in a huff over something she never said. I really wish when they went to Kerry's response he would have stated three mistakes he made and how'd he fix those, because he'd been doing it a lot that evening with regards to voting in favor of invading Iraq and passing the Patriot Act. Rather than pointing out the President's top errors, he could have shown a little more grace by answering the question that Bush couldn't. And he could have done it without really loosing any credibility, because those were things he already admitted to. Oh well. When I'm God, all this nonsense will change.

Anyone else note the stark change in Bush's ability to speak once he got to the domestic issues? He's great at war talk and getting motivated and speaking clear, but when it came to taxes and health care he really started to stutter and have difficulties.

Talked to dad after the debate. It was his birthday and he's been abandoned by the family who are all out of town, the bastards. I felt bad. But he told me not to worry. There were six girls over the house and a few packs of beer. They were watching the debate. Rock on, dad.

Get this, dad has a Kerry sign in his yard. A KERRY SIGN! Holy shit. I'm just floored. Neither dad not I really like Kerry - for different reasons - but as my roommate puts it, I'd vote for the baby raping, dog killer over Bush right now.
