Denver's got a new mayor. Restaurant owner and first time politician, John Hickenlooper. By a landslide - 64% of the vote. The puns on his names are already getting out of control. But I'm optimistic. Hickenlooper is a progressive democrat. In a land where people equate the Denver police with the Gestopo, I'm hoping this guy can turn the tides a little. He's donated quite a bit of money to the Rocky Mountain Campaign for Middle East Peace and other grassroots programs. He's also refused to run a smear campaign to stunning results - the OTHER candidates follwed his lead and refrained from mud slinging themselves. I'm not sure if his landslide victory is a result of fresh blood running a clean campaign or the fact that from a distance his political signs dotting the Denver neighborhood actually resemble the Weinerschnitzles hamburger logo.

Interesting note - when Hickenlooper was underfire a few months ago for donating to potential terrorist organizations (That would be the Rocky Mountain Campaign for Middle East Peace and all those antiwar protesters out there) he made an interesting comment. He said "I support the state of Israel." Though what the state of Israel has to do with Denver is beyond me. Actually, it's not - I have a pretty idea why he made the statement. But it's yet another interesting connection to my thesis.

On a side note, saw a blurb on CNN Headline that the Denver police rejected a new uniform design because it too much resembled Nazi Storm Troopers. You know, they ought to just set pretense aside and go with it. Truth in advertising and all that.

Saw this on people's LJ today on Cafe Press - http://www.giveneyestosee.com/say-no-to-cafepress/ Glad for the heads up, I was building a little shop for my artwork there. Not that anyone would actually want it, but it's still disturbing to think they'd take the copyright of my art away. Also the bit on taxes was alarming. Anyone know about the legality of what Cafe Press is doing? Seems rather suspect, but I'm no expert on law or loopholes. I know that they can't legally demand anyone's social security under privacy laws unless they're the IRS. Even Universities have to find alternatives for people who refuse to give out that number.
