So last night I went out and saw The Importance of Being Ernest. It's a most wonderful adaptation of the Oscar Wilde play. I was thoroughly pleased with every aspect of it - Judi Dench as - you've got to know she played Lady Brecknall - was so perfect I was weeping with delight. No, I really wasn't weeping. It's hard to weep with a box of Junior Mints in your hand. But I was delighted. Rupert Everett and Colin Firth played off each other so beautifully that if we don't see any slash written for them, I"ll be highly disappointed. Wilde didn't put that subtext in there for nothing, folks - let's get crack'n! So to speak.

Reese Witherspoon also did a great job here. I'm never sure if I like her or not, but she did a fine performance as Cecily.

They changed some of the settings, added a song and a couple of lines were different here and there - but over all the spirit of Wilde definately lived in this film. I missed An Ideal Husband when it came out, but as it's done by the same people, I think I shall have to run to the video store very soon.
