Aparently exercising in 100+ degrees is a bad thing, go figure. It seems this summer we have two weather patterns in Denver now. Severe storms and severe heat. So yesterday after my class on managing diabetes I decided that no matter the weather, I was going to buck up and get some exercise in for the day. It's difficult to do it in the house, as we have downstair neighbors that don't appreciate the jumping about. Or me falling through the floor boards, I'd suppose. Maybe I need to get an exercise bike... Anyway, I took my little hand weights and went out to the park - just an hour, I told myself. Before I actually got to the park, I could tell it was a bad idea. I typically don't start wishing for death until about the third time around the park. I handn't even got there yet and I thought I had already died and gone to hell. Being a trooper, I decided to go around at least once (this take about 30 mins).
I made it. Just. Totally exhausted and dehydrated, despite the water I had with me. Dry heat ain't always a good thing. Given the time it takes to walk there and back home I was out for a total of 45 mins. I crawled into the house and looked in the mirror. Face was beet red. I thought I had sunburned it, but it was actually heat exhaustion. Once I recongealed enough not to fear melting in the shower I hopped in the ice cold water. Felt better, but then got a migraine.
The moral of this story is 100+ heat is too damned hot. Or maybe that I need an excercise bike...
