Happy Birthday to a special loved one. Hope you have a great day. And get started thinking now where you want to eat tonight ;)
On the Oscars - I've got to admit that the show was one of the funniest and enjoyable Oscars in a long, long time. Thank you, Billy Crystal :) I especially loved the opening movie "The Return of the Host." Very nice. The scene where Michael Moore shows up at the Oliphaunt stampeed yelling "Stop fighting little hobbits! This is a ficticious war!" before being stomped by an Oliphaunt was beautiful. Whatever you think about him, you can't say he doesn't have a sense of humor. And the political humor was greatly appreciated. I was glad to see a strong return of it this year. Billy's comment on how much things have changed since first hosting the show 13 years ago - nice. "We had a Bush in office, the economy went bust and we were just getting involved in a war with Iraq." Heh. Yeah.
Johnny. Is beautiful. And it was very cool that he lead (or at least it appeared he lead) the standing ovation for Sean Penn. Very nice. Though I guess that could have also have been a "Thank GOD it wasn't me!" moment of relief ;) And also very cool of Sean to acknowledge all the actors and get off a good WMD zinger ;) Charlize Theron did the same in her catagory in acknowledging the other actors. Extra points for Charlize recognizing Christina Ricci as her leading lady.
You know, I like Annie Lennox and Into the West, but I REALLY liked the song from The Triplets of Bellview - Kinda was hoping it might win. . .
Good to see Lord of the Rings sweep. I think was very approriate considering this epic and how much effort and innovation went into making it. Still think Sean Astin should have at least gotten the nomination nod, but at least the cast got recognized at the SAG awards. Nice to see the hobbits all sitting together. I think Elijah tackled every person that came down that isle. He looked ready to cry when they got best picture. Is he ever not completely adorable?
On to today. It's oddly bust the second week of open registration. All but Monday last week was dead. It's like people woke up this morning and did a collective "D'oh! Gotta register!" Still amazes me that they haven't figured out how to do this online yet. Rather simple and God knows I wouldn't want to have to talk to me over the phone. Though I've always relished anonimity with regards to administrative bullshit. The less I had to call real people the happier I was. I guess I'm just a misanthrop at heart.
